ABOUT THE POSITION
The Copyright Division at Higbee & Associates is responsible for representing some of the world's most renowned photographers and top news agencies. Associate Attorney will represent clients in Copyright matters, particularly in pre-litigation negotiations and later proceedings, as needed. The associate will work with paralegals and/or legal assistants to manage a significant caseload, working to negotiate settlements prior to trial in federal court. Though the caseload will mostly be copyright matters, an ability and availability to take on some other matters is desired.
General Job Description:
Represents clients in copyright matters from pre-contact case review to production of demands and negotiation of settlement and/or legal proceedings. Negotiates cases by email, phone, and/or teleconference – as well as helping clients with case and contract review. Please note that the office is a smoke free office on a smoke-free campus. If you smoke or vape, this might present significant challenges.
Role in Law Firm Mission:
The associate will be responsible for advocating for and protecting clients’ intellectual property rights while maintaining the great reputation of professionalism for the law firm as a whole.
Key Specific Duties:
- Assist potential new clients in consultation to determine an ability to protect their copyrights.
- Conducts and directs pre-litigation negotiation, being able to maintain a high degree of professionalism and willingness to help opposing parties and counsel understand the case.
- Conduct legal research and provide succinct and helpful analysis in a timely manner.
- Correspond with opposing counsel and opposing parties via email, phone, and/or teleconference.
- Coordinate with and advise clients on legal matters via email, phone, and/or teleconference.
- Supervise assigned staff to ensure rapid and professional resolution of matters in pre-litigation negotiation.
- Review and negotiate settlement agreements.
- Calmly and professionally advise and/or contend with difficult opposing parties or counsel when matters are escalated.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
