McKee, Voorhees & Sease, PLC is an intellectual property boutique firm, specializing in protecting and defending our client’s patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, licensing, and regulatory needs. We focus on providing each client a customized IP portfolio, fit to serve their business needs and achieve their strategic goals.
The firm is looking for a full-time Intellectual Property Paralegal/Legal Assistant to work in our Des Moines, IA office. As part of a team of Intellectual Property Paralegals and Legal Assistants, you will work in a team environment while supporting attorneys and patent agents. This is not a remote position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Preparation of and working with departments, attorneys, and patent agents to prepare and file Provisional, Utility, and Continuing applications with the USPTO.
- Working with departments, attorneys, patent agents, and foreign counsel for filing of international applications.
- Coordination with clients for signatures and revision of papers and documents necessary for the above.
- Preparation of client correspondence as received from USPTO and foreign counsel.
- Organization and management of multiple tasks with time-sensitivity.
- Communications with clients as well as internal personnel to complete tasks and to maintain confidentiality.
- Management of internal dockets associated with the above.
- Efficient proofreading, redlining, and editing of documents prepared by attorneys, patent agents, and foreign counsel for accuracy, comprehension, and overall grammar and punctuation.
- Process billing and time entry.
- Internal Filing of documents as per electronic filing structure.
- Other duties as associated with the functions of an intellectual Property Paralegal/Legal Assistant.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a law firm administrative office.
- Candidates must be efficient, flexible, detail-oriented, results-oriented, a self-starter, possess strong organizational and communication skills, strong computer skills, with the ability to prioritize, and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
- Occasional overtime work may be necessary and flex time with 2 remote days a week are available.
