Positions in this function provide legal advice and services on issues concerning the rights, obligations, risks, and privileges of the Specialty Benefits business (which includes dental, vision, hearing, and financial protection) within UnitedHealthcare’s Employer & Individual segment. Protect the organization's rights in contract negotiations, settlements, and litigation. Acquire deep knowledge of the industry and this particular business within UnitedHealth Group to best advise senior leaders and functional areas such as Sales, Operations, Finance, Clinical, Regulatory Affairs, and others. Provide a full range of legal advice and services and may specialize in one of more areas such as mergers and acquisitions, transactional work, commercial law, contracts law, benefit law, insurance law, regulatory and compliance.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Providing legal counsel on the following matters:
- RFP reviews for potential new/renewal customers
- Support for the sales/account management initiatives
- Resolving customer issues
- Contract drafting/negotiation
- Antitrust issues
- Clinical initiatives
- Provider network issues
- Regulatory matters

Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree
- 5+ years of legal experience
- Knowledge of U.S., state contract, corporate health care and regulatory law
- Experience with regulatory agencies and administrative experience with state insurance regulations
- Understanding of health care benefit coverage and medical policy development
- Proven success in collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environment
- Demonstrated understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projects
- Ability to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit needs
- Ability to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external company contacts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Managed care legal experience
- Solid understanding of health insurance and/or managed care industry
- Well-developed written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent presentation skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
