Position: Paralegal 1
Location: Research Triangle Park, NC
Duration: 4 months Contract (Possible Extension)
US Citizenship or Green Card Required
Role purpose
- Prepare all documents required for filing and prosecuting U.S., International, and foreign patent applications
- Filing documents in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, electronically and by certification procedures
- Independently prepare all correspondence during prosecution of patent applications for attorney review.
- Assist with special projects and other assignments as requested by the attorneys and agents
- Provide back-up docketing support for docket database
Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities
- Bachelors Degree and/or Paralegal Certification or equivalent significant experience in a related field
- 3 - 5 years experience and stable work history in relevant field is essential
- Experience with patent prosecution is a must
- Familiarity and experience with docket administration preferred
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Must be analytical, detail oriented, able to work independently, proactively exercise sound judgment and problem solving, multi-task, and work well under pressure in a team environment
- Ability to maintain confidential information in an appropriate, professional manner is critical
- Demonstrated commitment and track record of providing excellent service
- Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required
- Work with attorneys, agents and inventors, both inside and outside the company, to ensure that patent applications and responses are timely and appropriately filed worldwide
- Has ability to exercise good judgment and discretion and to handle a demanding case load
- Excellent attention to details
- Ability to proactively and quickly process and identify issues, propose solutions and implement action plans
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Familiarity and experience with patent procurement, prosecution, maintenance and files
- Time management and/or project management skills
- Ability to prioritize and organize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints
- Strong computing skills using MS Office products
- Ability to be a successful part of a team but also work well independently
