About The Position
We are seeking an experienced IP paralegal, particularly with patent experience (worldwide), who can work remotely from anywhere or be in our office in New Mexico.
Our desired qualifications are listed below, but you need not have all of this experience, unless it is noted as “required”.
- Required: Minimum five years of experience as an intellectual property paralegal.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred, high school diploma required.
- Required: Must have demonstrated attention to detail, organizational skills, initiative, be a self-starter, proactive, able to think independently, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Required: Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint; and Adobe Acrobat.
- Required: Detailed knowledge of U.S. patent, PCT, U.S. trademark and Madrid Protocol rules, regulations, and forms. Experienced in filing via Patent Center, EPAS, e-PCT, TEAS, ETAS and ESTTA, as well as using electronic information systems such as Patent Center, the U.S. Patent and Patent Application search databases, Patentscope, TSDR, TESS, TTABVUE and Madrid Monitor.
- Experience navigating international patent office websites, especially those of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, European Patent Office, Australian Patent Office, and Japanese Patent Office, including JPlat Pat, a plus.
- Experience with U.S. copyright rules, regulations, and forms, as well as with the Electronic Copyright Office (eCO) Registration System, a plus.
- Experience with intellectual property docketing systems, especially Foundation IP, as well as with time and billing systems, a plus.
Job Duties
- Prepare required paperwork to accompany initial U.S. patent, PCT, and U.S. trademark and Madrid trademark application filings, and file via applicable electronic filing system, as well as follow-on filings during prosecution through issuance and maintenance; handle all client reporting.
- Coordinate foreign patent and trademark filings by providing instruction and documentation to foreign associates from initial filing through issuance and maintenance and handle all client reporting.
- Prepare and file U.S. copyright applications via Electronic Copyright Office (eCO) Registration System, assist with any inquiries from the U.S. Copyright Office regarding same, and handle all client reporting.
- Manage docket deadlines for assigned cases and enter some data into our computerized docketing system, Foundation IP.
- Communicate with attorneys, clients, inventors, foreign patent agents and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and World Intellectual Property Office representatives to identify and resolve patent, trademark and copyright related issues.
