Patent Agent

Intellectual Property is one of an industry disruptor’s most important assets, and Sakuú has set a solid strategy to protect ours. This includes hiring an experienced and motivated Patent Agent to spearhead the effort.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities of the position include:

Driving ideation generation activities, invention disclosure review, patent preparation and prosecution, patent portfolio management and coordination with outside counsel
The selected candidate will work closely with R&D and product development teams to identify and document new inventions
The candidate will conduct prior art searches and assess novelty, non-obviousness, and patentability of invention disclosures
The candidate will coordinate activities with outside counsel to assist with drafting and filing of new patent applications and preparing responses to patent office actions
The candidate will track and maintain databases and dockets related to patent status and provide written documentation of ip portfolio for routine review by management

Requirements:

B.S. or advanced degree in materials science, chemistry, mechanical engineering or other scientific disciplines.
The candidate must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience with preparation and prosecution of patent applications, IP strategy and portfolio management
Knowledge and understanding of materials and processes related to battery and additive manufacturing technologies are highly desirable
Extensive experience in invention harvesting, prior art search and analysis, invention disclosure preparation, drafting and filing patent applications, and preparing responses to office actions is required
Registration to practice before the US Patent & Trademark Office is preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work as a team player in a multi-functional environment are required

Physical Requirements

Ability to communicate in real-time with co-workers, and external contacts
Travel frequency will be incidental

Location

Sakuú’s culture is best experienced in person, and selected candidates will be expected to work 100% onsite at our South San Jose location. Remote work schedules are not available.

The estimated compensation range for a new hire in this position is $ 160,000 to $ 190,000. Actual compensation may vary depending on job-related factors, which may include candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to a competitive base salary, discretionary target cash bonus, Sakuú offers full-time employees a comprehensive benefits package including health, life, and disability insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan.
