Registered Patent Agent Opportunity – Phoenix, AZ (2-5 Years Experience)

Sonja Cotton & Associates is actively seeking a Patent Agent with 2-5 years of experience to join a dynamic and growing intellectual property law firm in Phoenix. This position will primarily focus on patent prosecution and requires registration with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Key Responsibilities:

Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications, guiding clients through the patent process.
Collaborate with clients on innovative and emerging technologies to secure patent protection and develop robust IP portfolios.
Support due diligence, conduct landscape analysis, and assess freedom-to-operate and validity for collaborative industry projects.
Respond to office actions from the United States Patent and Trademark Office and other international patent authorities.
Focus on patent filings and support litigation efforts as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

Strong project management skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Experience establishing internal processes to streamline patent filings, deadlines, and related information.
Exceptional writing skills with the ability to research and communicate complex ideas clearly.
Effective and professional communication skills when interacting with attorneys, staff, and clients, both verbally and in writing.
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Diplomacy and sound judgment when communicating with managing attorneys and clients in providing information and feedback.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
Minimum of 2 years' experience in patent prosecution (1-2 years’ experience will be considered).
Strong preference for candidates with industry experience in Software Development/Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Semiconductor Manufacturing & Packaging.
USPTO Registration is required.

Pay: $133,029.00 - $143,635.00 per year
