Registered Patent Agent Opportunity – Phoenix, AZ (2-5 Years Experience)
Sonja Cotton & Associates is actively seeking a Patent Agent with 2-5 years of experience to join a dynamic and growing intellectual property law firm in Phoenix. This position will primarily focus on patent prosecution and requires registration with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications, guiding clients through the patent process.
- Collaborate with clients on innovative and emerging technologies to secure patent protection and develop robust IP portfolios.
- Support due diligence, conduct landscape analysis, and assess freedom-to-operate and validity for collaborative industry projects.
- Respond to office actions from the United States Patent and Trademark Office and other international patent authorities.
- Focus on patent filings and support litigation efforts as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong project management skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience establishing internal processes to streamline patent filings, deadlines, and related information.
- Exceptional writing skills with the ability to research and communicate complex ideas clearly.
- Effective and professional communication skills when interacting with attorneys, staff, and clients, both verbally and in writing.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Diplomacy and sound judgment when communicating with managing attorneys and clients in providing information and feedback.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in patent prosecution (1-2 years’ experience will be considered).
- Strong preference for candidates with industry experience in Software Development/Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Semiconductor Manufacturing & Packaging.
- USPTO Registration is required.

Pay: $133,029.00 - $143,635.00 per year
