POSITION SUMMARY:
The Patent Agent interviews inventors, participates in the patent committee meetings, and prepares and prosecutes patent applications. The Patent Agent manages the patent and trademark portfolios.
This position is open to candidates located in Fort Collins or Denver (CO), Minneapolis/Eden Prairie (MN), Milpitas/Bay Area (CA), or Boston/Wilmington (MA).
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works closely with innovators to identify patentable inventions, and draft and prosecute patent applications

Conducts patent harvest sessions and supports the patent committees to evaluate patentability of company innovations
- Communicates frequently with inventors, engineering managers, and product managers to support patent prosecution
- Manages the patent and trademark portfolios

Performs prior art searches

Supports patent analysis projects

Generates claim charts for infringement and invalidity
- Supports foreign patent prosecution

Supports outside patent counsel
QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential:
-
Required 5+ years of US patent application drafting and prosecution experience in electrical technologies

Registered as a Patent Agent to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office

Experience managing patent dockets
-
Ability to manage multiple projects at one time

Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skill
Preferred:

Law firm experience

Patent docketing experience

Claim chart experience
-
Technical knowledge in the following areas is preferred: power electronics and circuit/hardware design including: DC circuits, RF circuits, AC to DC converters, AC power factor correction, high power transistors and rectifiers, RF matching networks, analog circuits and switched-mode power supply technology

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required
Preferred:

Master’s degree in electrical engineering preferred
COMPENSATION:
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $145,000 to $185,000 per year.
