OGC attorneys may be eligible for telework. This, however, is not a remote position. WHY OPLit: OGC’s Office of Program Litigation (OPLit) promotes, advocates for, and protects SSA’s legal interests in federal court litigation involving Social Security benefit programs. OPLit attorneys partner with the Department of Justice and often serve as Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys. OPLit attorneys represent SSA in federal district and circuit court challenges to SSA policies and benefit determinations. Our work entails appellate-style litigation that requires a strong interest and aptitude for legal writing, oral advocacy, and public service. While OPLit attorneys have significant responsibility for their own caseloads, newly hired attorneys also receive extensive training, mentoring, and other support. OGC offers a collegial environment in which both newer and experienced attorneys collaborate to share their expertise and develop their careers.

SALARY INFORMATION: Base Salary: $62,107- $135,987 (depending on grade and step) PLUS locality pay based on geographic area. Please refer to General 2107chedule for more information.

Qualifications:

- J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
- Admitted to practice law in the state(s) where the position is located.
- Proven experience in the field of law, with a focus on Environmental law, Patent law, or Immigration law.
- Strong research skills and ability to stay current on legal developments.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with Tribal law regulations and other relevant laws and regulations.

- Proficiency in legal research databases such as Lexis-Nexis.
