Your duties will be related to your technical training and/or prior legal experience. Although, present needs concern the drafting and prosecution of patents, there is also a great likelihood of work in other related areas. For example, in addition to patent prosecution, you may contribute to portfolio counseling; infringement, invalidity, and freedom to operate opinions; due diligence.
Candidates must have a PhD (or MD or BS with research experience) in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, virology, microbiology, oncology, gene editing, gene therapy or a related field. Patent prosecution experience and USPTO registration number is required. Patent drafting and searching experience required.

Our compensation is competitive with peer firms and commensurate with our billable hour expectations. Additional compensation is provided for any originating business and meeting certain billable hour thresholds. We offer an anticipated annual compensation of $120,000 to $150,000 based on experience.

Essential Functions
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Draft and submit Office Action responses and correspond with Examiners.
- Draft and submit patent applications.
- Conduct diligence review and assist in management of IP portfolios.
- Responsible for invention intake with clients and prospective clients.
- Perform patentability and clearance searches.
- Prepare related memoranda and opinions.
- Act on behalf of the clients’ best interest.
- Aid senior attorneys and teams in filing paperwork on time.
- Advise clients on their patent rights.
- Use exceptional communication and analytical skills to learn about clients’ inventions.
- Understand technical concepts.
- Keep up with advancements in your field.
- Demonstrate effective communication with clients and internal teams.
- Collaborate with legal professionals to provide comprehensive patent services.
- Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Registered to practice before the USPTO required.
- Graduate degree required in: Engineering, Life Science, or a related field required. PhD preferred
- Minimum of 2-4 years of patent prosecution experience required.
- Life Sciences and/or Molecular Biology experience required. Organic chemistry a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in both patent preparation and prosecution required.
- Ability to professionally interface with clients and respond to questions required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of USPTO patent rules and procedures as it applies to PCT, Patent Center and other USPTO filing procedures required.
- Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Pro required; knowledge of Salesforce is preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation required.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills required, with the ability to shift priorities quickly without compromising deadlines or quality required.
