About Academy Of Visual And Performing Arts
Academy of Visual and Performing Arts is a 6-12th grade, tuition-free public charter school for students in Fort Worth, Texas. Our mission is to provide a safe, challenging learning environment that cultivates our students' academic and artistic excellence. We exist to ensure that all students are provided with equitable opportunities to Learn In The Arts and Learn Through The Arts.
Start Date: September 30, 2024 or as soon as reasonbly possible.
Type: Full-time position. Work hours are generally 7:30 am - 4:45 pm. Flexibility in the work schedule is expected due to the nature of working in a start-up environment. Candidates should have the flexibility to travel and work in the evenings and on weekends. The schedule will be adjusted to accommodate after-hours assignments, as needed.
Summary
Reporting to the Principal, the Assistant Principal - Academic is a school-based learning role that assists the in the overall administration of the academic program. Responsibilities include:
Academic Leadership:
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school's curriculum and instructional programs.
- Support teachers in implementing best practices in teaching and learning, including providing professional development opportunities
- Monitor and assess student progress and learning throughout the school year.
- Analyze student performance data to identify areas of need and to guide instructional improvements.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of academic interventions and programs.
Staff Supervision and Support
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of instructional staff.
- Provide feedback and coaching to teachers to enhance instructional quality and student learning outcomes.
- Foster a collaborative and positive professional culture among faculty and staff.
Teaching and Learning Leadership
- Act as the primary administrator on the Instructional Leadership Team to build a collaborative culture of shared responsibility for all students' academic, social, emotional, and artistic growth.
- Facilitate unit, lesson, and accelerated learning planning to ensure that students are provided with differentiation and scaffolded instructional strategies that enable them to make progress toward grade-level standards.
- Lead the audit of unit and lesson plans, accelerated learning plans, reteach plans, and student performance data on a weekly basis to inform coaching and support.
- Oversee the design, development, review, and delivery of curriculum to ensure alignment with the AVPA mission of academic excellence for all students
- Oversee the development of the arts-integrated, project-based curriculum and work with the appropriate staff to systematically review, calibrate, revise, and the curriculum to ensure that it is aligned with grade-level and content standards
- Lead the audit of unit and lesson plans, accelerated learning plans, reteach plans, and student performance data on a weekly basis to inform coaching and support
- Facilitate unit, lesson, and accelerated learning planning to ensure that students are provided with differentiation and scaffolded instructional strategies that enable them to make progress toward grade-level standards
Student Performance Management
- Consistently monitor the progress of all students to determine whether students are demonstrating mastery of grade-level standards across content areas and grade levels, including the performance of subgroups of students
- Coordinate the systematic use of a broad range of disaggregated data to address learning gaps and to support the core work of teaching and learning (i.e., to track and monitor individual students, classroom/grade- level specific, and school-wide progress toward goals)
- Provide insights on documented trends and hurdles to meet stated annual goals, and collaborate with administration, the instructional leadership team, educators, and staff to identify possible solutions
Professional Development
- Provide leadership to the instruction staff on the improvement of teaching and learning through professional learning, embedded professional development, daily observations, and growth-oriented coaching and feedback, and evaluations
- Lead the comprehensive assessment program
Human Resources Administration, Compliance and Risk Management
- Provide leadership and coordination to campus personnel related to the multi-tiered system of supports the team, student success team, ARD and LPAC committees, and the other academic teams as required
Parent and Community Engagement
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, school policies, and academic programs
- Develop partnerships with community organizations to support the school's mission and enhance student learning opportunities
Operational Support
- Assist with the scheduling of classes, assignments, and assessments.
- Manage resources, including budgets, materials, and technology, to support instructional programs
Communication
- Ensure that ongoing, high-level communication about teaching and learning exists between the staff, families, and the community
- Communicate students' progress with students and families. Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding, and respect
Organizational Management
- Provide leadership and oversee the development of the master schedule, daily school activities, teacher assignments, conservatory schedules, tutoring, and extracurricular activity schedules. master campus-based tutoring sessions

First and foremost, the Assistant Principal - Academic must have an unwavering commitment to Academy of Visual and Performing Arts' mission and a willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of AVPA students, families, and staff. Additionally, for this position, we're looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
- Principal certification preferred; Certified T-TESS appraiser, preferred
- Three (3) years teaching experience in English Language Arts and Reading, Mathematics or Science
- Instructional leadership or curriculum development experience
- Experience in implementing and monitoring academics programs
- Results-proven track record of exceeding goals
- Evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment with high level of business acumen and problem-solving skills
- Strong project and time management skills; ability to effectively backward plan, juggle multiple priorities with great attention to, detail, and deliver consistent and timely results
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and enthusiastic communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
- Ability to lead, influence, and hold others accountable to high standards of organizational excellence
- Strong learning orientation and desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
- Successful criminal background check results required

Academy of Visual and Performing Arts' compensation philosophy is to pay competitively for the PK-12 charter market to ensure equity across our institution. The salary for this role is $72,500-$75,000 annually. AVPA is committed to internal pay equity throughout our organization.
