Venable LLP’s Patent Prosecution and Counseling group seeks an experienced patent agent with a background in organic chemistry to join the group in the Washington, D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles or San Francisco office.
The qualified candidate has two to five years of experience with patent prosecution, at USPTO or in a law firm, with excellent academic credentials, strong writing skills, and sharp analytical ability. Industry experience is a plus. The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or similar specialties; other specialties or an M.S. with appropriate experience may be considered. Qualified candidates must show competence in understanding chemical structures and properties. PTO registration is strongly preferred, though technical specialists with appropriate experience and the ability to sit for the patent bar will be considered. All submissions must include a brief cover letter indicating office of interest, and undergraduate and graduate transcripts.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $160,000 - $220,000 per year. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of job-related factors including, but not limited to, years of related experience, level of education, skills, credentials and certifications, responsibilities and performance.
