Moore & Van Allen PLLC, a dynamic and fast-growing full-service law firm of more than 400 attorneys and professionals, is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Patent Agent with IP focused patent prosecution experience in chemistry, biochemistry, and biosensors to join its Charlotte, NC office.
Qualified candidates must have a PhD in a life sciences discipline (e.g., chemistry (organic/inorganic), polymer chemistry, biosensors, adhesives, medicine, medical devices, metallurgy), be registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office, and have 5-7 years of experience drafting and prosecuting US patent applications. Patent Attorney or Patent Agent candidates will be considered. Candidates should be comfortable with a range of technologies in the chemistry/life science space, and some experience with inorganic chemistry/steel chemistry would also be a plus. Qualified candidates should have a desire to learn and produce in a collegial group possessing extensive experience and a rapidly growing practice, that also has a keen interest in helping to develop associates to achieve their full career potential.
Key Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with patent preparation and prosecution
- Admitted to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office
- Attorney Candidates: Admitted to and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- PhD degree in the life sciences (e.g., chemistry, polymer science, biology, biomedical engineering, medicine)
- Excellent scientific/technical ability and drafting skills
- Excellent application drafting and prosecution skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills—must be able to communicate effectively with both internal and external Firm contacts
- Must be a team player – you will be working with junior associates and senior partners to achieve optimal client outcomes
- Must have a desire to learn and grow your skill set
Physical Requirements:
- The work is primarily sedentary.
- It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
- The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- The work at times requires bending, squatting, and reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light weights.
