Our client, a leading law firm with a robust international practice, is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Patent Paralegal to join their team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, supporting a variety of patent-related matters. This role is available in Kalamazoo, MI, with additional office locations in Ann Arbor, Bloomfield Hills, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate domestic and international patent filings with the USPTO and foreign law offices/entities.
- Maintain docket systems to track deadlines for responses, renewals, oppositions, Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) requirements, and patent annuity payments in foreign jurisdictions.
- Prepare and file documents with the USPTO and foreign counsel.
- Draft and record assignments, client correspondence, and status summary reports for attorneys and clients.
- Review and act on correspondence received from foreign associates.
- Obtain legalizations and certifications for patent-related documents.
- Conduct research and compile information related to national and international patent rights, including USPTO records and industry databases.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal certification preferred.
- A minimum of two years of experience in patent work, including prosecution, maintenance, and renewals.
- Strong understanding of U.S. and foreign patent processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and patent management tools such as Innovation, PATTSY, Lexis/Nexis, or similar databases.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage a high volume of work under minimal supervision.
- Exceptional attention to detail, discretion with confidential information, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to professionalism and a willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and processes.
