Because of growth, our client is adding an Intellectual Property Paralegal to its team. You will be entrusted with the responsibility of handling patent and trademark applications, managing the global intellectual property portfolio, and coordinating with innovation and R& D teams.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive searches for patents and trademarks to confirm the uniqueness of names or ideas.
- Take charge of the preparation and submission of patent and trademark applications.
- Oversee the global intellectual property portfolio to ensure its proper management.
- Collaborate with the innovation and R& D teams to accumulate the necessary documents and information for filings.
- Draft, review, and handle legal documents and correspondence related to intellectual property.
- Take responsibility for the legal billing for the Company, including drafting and securing engagement letters, reviewing, coding, and processing invoices from outside counsel, and liaising with Accounting to collect billing information.
- Keep track of deadlines and maintain IP docketing systems to ensure timely filings.
- Manage the invention disclosure process for the company's inventors.
- Handle the inventor compensation process, as required by certain jurisdictions.
- Facilitate the budget and forecasting processes for IP outside counsel.
- Conduct research and analyze legal issues related to intellectual property.
- Provide status reports to the Legal team and innovation and R& D teams on the progress of IP matters.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the IP prosecution and maintenance process.
- Prepare and maintain IP presentations for internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Legal team to ensure appropriate confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements are in place to protect the company's IP.
Experience :
3+ years in an IP law firm or corporate legal/IP department.
Skills :
Strong understanding of IP laws and regulations.
Familiarity with patent and trademark application/filing processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including explaining complex IP topics.
Excellent organization, multitasking, and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
SAP experience (a plus).
Education :
Minimum Associate’s degree (A.A.) in applied law or related field.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
