As a Patent Counsel in our Phoenix office, you are primarily responsible for creating our IP assets and trusted to take full ownership of your projects – with the right balance of support and autonomy.
This individual will report to the Patent Counsel team lead and will have a strong working relation with their colleagues across the globe, as well as IP Managers embedded in our business units. To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate must have the strong ability to prioritize and balance a demanding workload. This isn’t for the faint at heart, but for those who are focused, self-motivated and have impeccable problem-solving skills, the opportunities thrive in a rapidly growing and globally diverse high technology company.
Responsibilities
- Draft and prosecute patents in a diverse technology portfolio linked to ASM’s engineering activities globally.
- Maintain close contact with the inventor community and stay in touch with R&D activities.
- Manage outside counsel and participate in determining and implementing global prosecution strategy.
Job Requirements
- BS or MS degree in chemistry, materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, or other relevant semiconductor engineering discipline.
- Qualification as a patent attorney or patent agent in any major jurisdiction (EP, US, KR, or JP).
- Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, managing an IP portfolio, and coordinating outside legal counsel work.
- Experience with IP-related contracts, and other forms of intellectual property (industrial designs, trademarks and/or trade secrets) a plus, but not required.
- Ability to generate IP effectively in a multicultural, dynamic, and demanding high-tech environment.
- Ability to operate in a high-performance team.
- Ability to communicate complex messages clearly.
- Ability to quickly adapt to a dynamic environment.
