Teleflex Incorporated has an exciting opportunity within its in-house legal department for an experienced and highly motivated individual to join the organization as an Intellectual Property (“IP”) Paralegal. The IP Paralegal will provide support, as appropriate, on patent and trademark prosecution and litigation matters at the direction of counsel, which will primarily include coordinating filing, procurement, and maintenance of patents and trademarks, docketing, educational training, litigation support, and various special projects. This role will report into the Company’s Associate General Counsel – IP who manages the Company’s global intellectual property portfolio. This position will be located at Teleflex’s corporate headquarters in Wayne, PA.
Principal Responsibilities
- Manage e-billing of outside counsel.
- Manage an internal patent and trademark docket.
- Organize and maintain internal legal department electronic files.
- Manage internal annuity payment system.
- Handle various administrative tasks including scheduling meetings and reminders, sorting incoming mail, sending out mail, scanning, copying, and notarizing documents.
- Coordinate communication between outside counsel and internal stakeholders to search, file, obtain, and maintain patents and trademarks.
- Use and knowledge of USPTO databases (PAIR, TESS)
- Prepare and maintain educational training plan and documents.
- Support Associate General Counsel – IP to establish and implement processes and procedures to harmonize the intellectual property function.
- Other projects as needed.
Education / Experience Requirements
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience working as a patent and/or trademark paralegal at a top law firm and/or in-house legal department of a public company. In-house experience strongly preferred. Patent experience strongly preferred.
- Paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited institution or equivalent experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree a plus.
- Experience with Legal Tracker and IP docketing systems such as CPI, AppColl, FoundationIP, etc
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Westlaw, Lexis, PatSnap, and other types of on-line research databases.
- Time management and organizational skills necessary to appropriately prioritize workload, plan and project manage for resources to meet deadlines and goals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and project a professional image at all times.
- Self-motivated and independent with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
