Summary:
The Products Counsel serves as a legal generalist advising the Company’s product, engineering, marketing, access and equity, support and sales teams on a broad range of legal issues related to CA’s products and services. The Products Counsel supports strategic initiatives involving current and new products and feature development while maintaining a business and legal focus, protecting the Company, and serving as a multi-department liaison.
The Impact You'll Have:

Advises and counsels key business partners on all legal aspects of the product lifecycle from conception through launch, on go-to-market strategies, and on maintenance and refinement of new products, features and functionality across the Company’s suite of products and services;

Develops and nurtures trusted relationships with business partners and stays informed on key product developments;

Drafts terms of use, product policies, and product disclosures, and implements policies required to support legal frameworks;

Establishes and implements compliance best practices by keeping up-to-date on applicable technology, consumer protection, and intellectual property laws and regulations;

Maintains deep understanding of business goals, products, objectives, roadmaps, and business processes to effectively spot legal issues and provide relevant advice for business advancement;

Protects the interests of the business by identifying potential risks, sourcing subject matter experts as needed, and developing risk mitigation tactics;

Advises on compliance with federal, state, and international laws and regulations affecting the education technology and SaaS industry, including accessibility laws;

Supports the Company’s intellectual property strategy, including the protection of patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and manages the intellectual property portfolio;

Supports and advises on the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements relevant to Company products and services in partnership with contracts team members as needed;

Support the business and assist with other compliance matters and legal functions on an as needed, reasonable basis.
What We're looking for:

Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. and international regulatory, commercial contracts, intellectual property and consumer protection laws impacting the educational technology and SaaS industry;

Ability to work cross-functionally with lawyers and non-lawyers, to establish effective solutions efficiently and in an amenable manner;

Builds trust, emphasized collaboration and communication, and serves as a connector between business and legal;

Translate legal advice into actionable guidance for stakeholders, often in line with prescribed timelines;

Ability to apply risk-balanced, practical legal guidance to complex product questions, creative problem-solving and solution-finding skills, and agility and flexibility in an evolving and ever-changing environment;

Superior analytical and research skills to complete assigned tasks and navigate challenging matters;

Maintains confidentiality to the utmost degree;

Takes independent action and calculated risks while asking for help as needed;

Balances team and individual responsibilities while contributing to a positive working environment.
Required Education and Experience:
-
Juris doctor from an accredited law school;
-
Member of the bar in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction;

Five years of legal experience, with a minimum of three years’ counseling on product matters;
-
Familiarity and experience with launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in education technology, SaaS, and/or technology space required;

Familiarity and experience with accessibility laws, including WCAG standards.
Benefits and Pay Range:
Pay Range – This role’s range is $110,500 - $196,500. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that Curriculum Associates considers in making compensation decisions based on our Compensation Philosophy. Actual base pay within that range will vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, prior experience and relevant skill sets. At Curriculum Associates, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances for each case. This role is also eligible to participate in the company bonus plan. The Company recognizes that minimum wage varies by location and will ensure all compensation decisions comply with applicable state and local laws.
