General Description:
Responsible for assisting with all facets of the U.S. patent prosecution process, coordinating incoming and outgoing correspondence, tracking critical dates in PATTSY and Anaqua. Prepare drafts of design patent applications as well as US national and divisional patent applications. Prepare all formal papers for filing in the USPTO as well as in the PCT. Prepare Information Disclosure Statements. Maintain dockets. Prepare and send form letters to clients after having received papers from the PTO. Send reminders to clients. Provide coverage support to other legal assistants as needed.
Essential Duties (e.g. what do you have to do to achieve the desired results of your job)
Manage and distribute incoming and outgoing correspondence
Tasks to attorneys and patent agents in accordance with client-specific processes
Review incoming PTO docketing
Update docketing databases with outgoing PTO filings
Coordinate client signatures on essential documents
Submit assignment documents for recordation
Draft correspondence as instructed
Prepare documents for filing with the PTO, including electronic filing
Proofread patents issued and follow-up with the details regarding issued patents.
Review Patent Term Adjustment calculations from PTO
Support for other legal assistants as needed
Prepare information disclosure statements, including reviewing corresponding files for cross-citing
Minimum Requirements (e.g. education, skills, training, physical requirements etc.)
The best candidate will have experience as a Legal Assistant in a law firm, be highly competent with computers and have the following:
