Position Overview: As a Patent Lawyer at Mira, you will play a crucial role in managing and protecting our intellectual property portfolio related to in vitro diagnostic technologies. You will work closely with our R&D teams, legal department, and external patent counsel to develop and execute strategies for patent acquisition, enforcement, and litigation. Your expertise will ensure that our innovations are effectively safeguarded and that we maintain a competitive edge in the market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patent Strategy Development: Develop and implement strategies for patent protection and portfolio management in alignment with the company's business objectives and innovation pipeline.
- Patent Preparation and Prosecution: Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications related to in vitro diagnostic technologies, ensuring robust and enforceable intellectual property rights.
- IP Portfolio Management: Manage and oversee the company’s patent portfolio, including conducting periodic reviews, assessments, and strategic planning to enhance the value and scope of our IP assets.
- Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research and analysis of patent-related issues, including freedom-to-operate studies, patentability assessments, and infringement analyses.
- Collaboration with R&D Teams: Work closely with research and development teams to understand new technologies, provide legal guidance on patent-related matters, and identify opportunities for patent protection.
- Patent Litigation and Enforcement: Handle or oversee patent litigation matters, including coordinating with external counsel, managing litigation strategies, and enforcing patent rights against infringers.
- Regulatory and Compliance Issues: Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations related to patenting and intellectual property, and advise on regulatory issues impacting patent strategy.
- Training and Awareness: Provide training and guidance to internal teams on intellectual property matters, including patent policies, procedures, and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school, with admission to the bar in at least one jurisdiction.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in patent law, with a focus on in vitro diagnostics or related biomedical technologies. Experience in managing patent portfolios and handling patent litigation is highly desirable.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of in vitro diagnostic technologies, biomedical engineering, or related fields, with the ability to grasp complex technical concepts.
- Skills:
- Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in patent prosecution and litigation processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Preferred: Advanced degree in a scientific or engineering discipline related to in vitro diagnostics is a plus.
